Counseling for the change YOU desire.

Working together to transform your struggles to your growth.

Welcome!

I am so glad you are here and thinking about therapy! Let's be real, it is not easy to find a therapist, and who the therapist is matters! You want to make sure that you "click" and I get that! That's why I think it is important that we talk before you make a commitment. Even if you are on the fence about counseling, go ahead and reach out.

I provide counseling for individuals and families. I particularly enjoy working with teens, young adults, parents, and families. Most people at some point experience a difficult time where they struggle and feel stuck or overwhelmed. I can help you or your family get unstuck and manage the tricky situation at hand. It can be hard to believe now but your situation can improve with help, even if you situation is complex, deep, long term, and complicated. I have seen it happen many times, it can be done!

If your problem was easy to fix, you would have fixed it already. Life is often more complicated than it seems at first glance, so I work with clients to take a deeper look at what may be contributing and use my expertise in mental health to empower people to make meaningful change.

Services

Individual and Family Therapy

I provide both individual therapy as well as family therapy. Often treatment includes a combination both, but not always. For some people entering in to a counseling relationship this can feel unexciting and potentially unpleasant. Please know that you are in charge, I will never force anything on you and we will always discuss the plan for treatment together. We will work on your personal goals, strengthen your support system, and examine unhelpful habits, while also increasing your coping skills.

You may wonder, “what is family therapy? And why would we do that?”

People do not exist in isolation, we all have important people in our lives. The reason that we may add some family sessions is because your environment has an impact on your overall mental health. Sometimes people in your environment (often family or partners) need help knowing how to best support you, and that is where I come in. I am sometimes asked by clients, "do we all have to be in the same room at the same time?" and the answer is, not always; and if this is a worry for you, just talk to me and we will make a plan you are comfortable with. It is also worth noting that research shows that for adolescents the most effective approaches to treatment include family therapy elements.

I offer both in person and virtual counseling sessions based on your needs. I am licensed in the state of Oregon, this mean that you do need to be in Oregon during our session.

Fees:

Initial diagnostic assessment (intake) - $200

On-going 50 minute therapy sessions (individual or family) -$185

*if cost is a concern please contact me about availability of sliding scale fees

Insurance:

I am not currently in network with any insurance companies, however I am in the process of joining Moda Health and Care Oregon/Oregon Health Plan. You may still be able to use your insurance with out of network benefits.

Good Faith Estimate:

Clients who pay for their services are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of expected charges under the No Surprises Act. Please click here to learn more about the GFE and your rights as a client of an out-of-network provider.

Meet Sara

My Background:

I started my career as a mental health professional working at a large mental health agency where I was able to serve a wide variety of individuals (kids and adults), families, and couples. Next I worked at an outpatient clinic that focused on youth and family therapy where I had the privilege of caring for individuals and families that had some really intense situations. This work was deep and demanding but I would not trade it for anything because it made me the strong therapist that I am today.

Prior to opening my practice I worked for a local school district providing counseling and social emotional support to students of all grades, and their families as well as providing mental health consultation to school administration and staff.

All of these experiences allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of trauma, depression, anxiety, and many other components of mental health; most of all human relationships.

My Approach:

My style is supportive and encouraging with a healthy dose of pushing you forward. While I think coping skills are useful, I am a bigger advocate of tackling the underlying cause.

The real Sara:

Now you might think “alright you are qualified, but what are you like as a person?” Well, that is a great question! Here is what I want you to know about me:

I am down to earth and try to be practical. As a therapist I am always looking for strengths in a person and new perspectives that can be helpful for the client, and I am also realistic. Sometimes situations just suck and there really is not a bright side to it, and I am not going to convince you otherwise, and we can work through that.

I was raised in a blue collar family and I was a first generation college student. I mention this because sometimes people are intimidated by “professionals” or feel that they will not be respected and I get that, but that will not be the case with me because I have lived and been exposed to many different lifestyles and I know that your title does not determine who you are.

Last, I want you to know that I LOVE my job and I know this is what I am meant to do. When you choose to comes to me I am truly honored to be your support and to be let in to your life. COVID was not friendly to anyone, therapists included, and it has caused some therapists to step back from counseling. I am grateful that I made it though and still know this is my passion. Because I love being a therapist I am always working to get better, this means I generally do far more training that I am required to do; and I frequently do research between our sessions if there is something that I am not familiar with (such as a medical condition or religion). I do keep my caseload low enough that I have time to give a lot of attention to each client both in session and outside of sessions.

What to Expect

Keep in mind that you are always in charge when it comes to your mental health treatment. We will work on the things that are most important to you. I will provide my perspective from a mental health standpoint but you are the expert in your life. If there are things you do not want to address right now that is ok. Also know that I have a strengths based approach, so I will always be looking for ways that we can emphasize and build on strengths you already have.

The counseling process and getting started:

  1. Reach out to me to schedule a time to talk by phone to determine if I am a good fit. To schedule you can email or call me.

  2. Fill out intake paper: forms will be sent to you via a secure client portal for you to complete prior to our intake session

  3. Attend the intake session: here I will gather background information and you will share your concerns with me.

  4. Treatment planning: Together we will determine your goals for counseling.

  5. On-going therapy: sessions are often weekly, we can decrease over time as you begin to feel better.

  6. Termination: when you are doing better and feel that you no longer need counseling we will prepare closing our time together then say goodbye.
